.........a brief explanation of our processes.

Teeth Whitening is the process of using bleach or other materials to make teeth look whiter. The materials remove stains or other discolorations from the tooth surface.  Teeth whitening is a cosmetic treatment done to improve the appearance of teeth. Teeth are whitened to remove effects of coffee, cigarettes and other substances that permanently stain or discolour teeth.

One should take precautions when considering whitening. Teeth whitening is not safe or effective for everyone, so a person should have a dental exam before starting treatment.  Whitening may not be recommended for people with gum disease, receding gums or sensitive teeth.

To understand endodontic treatment, it helps to know the anatomy of the tooth. Inside the tooth, under the white enamel and a hard layer called the dentin, is a soft tissue called the pulp. The pulp contains blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue and creates the surrounding hard tissue of the tooth during development.

Endodontic treatment is necessary when the pulp, the soft tissue inside the root canal becomes inflamed or infected. The inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes: deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, or a crack or chip in the tooth, in addition and injury to a tooth may cause pulp damage even if the tooth has no visible chips or cracks. If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain.

A crown is a type of dental restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth.  Crowns are often needed when a large cavity threatens the on-going health of a tooth. They are bonded to the tooth using dental cement. Crowns can be made from many materials which are usually fabricated using indirect methods. Crowns are often used to improve the strength of the teeth. The procedure and materials can be relatively expensive. The most common method of crowning a tooth involves using a dental impression of a prepared tooth by a dentist to fabricate outside of the mouth.  The crown is then fabricated using intense heat, such as casting metal or firing porcelain.

Full dentures are placed on a jaw that has no natural teeth remaining. They are usually made from plastic (acrylic). They therefore rest directly on the gum that overlies the bone in the mouth.

Partial dentures are one way to replace teeth that are missing. Partial dentures usually refer to the type that can be removed (as opposed to fixed partial dentures, usually called bridges).
